Abstract

This research investigates the impact of online teaching practices on the learning effectiveness of vocal music education in Chinese universities, addressing a critical need for understanding pedagogical adaptations in higher arts education during the digital shift. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, analyzing prevalent online teaching strategies through surveys and semi-structured interviews with both students and instructors. Learning effectiveness is evaluated based on perceived skill development, engagement levels, and overall satisfaction with the online learning experience. The research identifies key influencing factors, including the instructor's pedagogical innovation, technological proficiency, the suitability of digital tools for vocal training and feedback, and student self-regulation. Findings reveal that while online vocal music education presents significant challenges, particularly in replicating nuanced auditory feedback and collaborative performance, specific adaptive strategies, such as the integration of interactive platforms for individualized feedback and virtual ensemble projects, demonstrate enhanced learning outcomes. The study highlights the necessity of targeted faculty training in digital pedagogy and the development of robust assessment methods suited for the online environment. Recommendations are provided for optimizing online vocal music curricula, fostering student engagement, and ensuring the sustained quality of vocal music education in Chinese universities, offering valuable insights for global higher arts education institutions navigating similar pedagogical transitions.
