Abstract

Smart hospitals integrate medical equipment, information systems and clean medical spaces, featuring complex construction processes and numerous cross-disciplinary interfaces. Conventional segmented engineering management is plagued by prominent problems including information fragmentation, cost overruns and disconnected handover between construction and operation phases. To realize integrated management covering the design, construction, completion acceptance and operation & maintenance stages of smart hospital projects, this paper takes the whole-life-cycle management theory and digital collaborative theory as the theoretical framework. Adopting methods of literature review, field investigation and case analysis, this study sorts out the management pain points in each phase of smart hospital construction projects and analyzes the underlying organizational, technical and institutional root causes. A BIM-based whole-life-cycle engineering management system is established from three dimensions: organizational structure, phased BIM implementation procedures and digital collaborative platforms. The implementation roadmap is clarified, including prepositive modeling of medical processes in the design phase, 4D/5D control during construction, digital delivery upon completion, and data linkage between BIM models and medical systems in the operation & maintenance phase. Multi-layer guarantee countermeasures covering organization, technology, institution, talent and policy are proposed. The research results demonstrate that the full-cycle BIM management system can reduce design changes of special medical engineering works, shorten construction periods and cut long-term operation and maintenance costs. This study fills the research gap in full-process digital management of medical buildings, and provides theoretical references and practical schemes for digital engineering management of similar smart hospital projects.
