Comparative Study of the Golden Chamber: Translations by Luo Xiwen and Paul U.Unschuld

Amid globalization, there is growing global demand for China’s contributions in fields such as science and medicine. As a national treasure, Traditional Chi-nese Medicine (TCM) holds significant creative and far-reaching influence. Translating TCM classics thus requires integrated strategies—including trans-literation, liberal translation, domestication, and foreignization—to accurately convey medical and biological knowledge.From the perspective of eco-translatology, this study examines the English translations of Synopsis of the Golden Chamberby Luo Xiwen and Wei Naijie. By comparing their renditions of key medical terms, it explores the micro-level application of translation strategies and implements a “three-dimensional transformation” grounded in transliteration and liberal translation. This approach aims to achieve maximal textual accuracy in terminology translation, thereby supporting medical aca-demic exchange, promoting Chinese culture, and disseminating TCM wisdom worldwide for better global understanding of its essence.
