Abstract

This study takes the men’s singles final of the 2026 Australian Open as its object of analysis. Three research methods are employed: literature review, video observation, and mathematical statistics. The focus is on the technical data of the Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz in terms of serving, returning, and rallying during the final, which is then compared with his opponent Novak Djokovic. The results show the following: In serving, Alcaraz achieved a first‑serve win percentage of 77% and a second‑serve win percentage of 57%, and he hit 9 aces. His average serve speed in all categories was higher than his opponent’s, indicating an overall better serving performance. In returning, his return point win percentage reached 36.6%, significantly higher than Djokovic’s 27.7%, which shows he was effective at breaking his opponent’s serve. In the rally phase, Alcaraz scored a total of 26 winners, not far from Djokovic’s tally, but his unforced errors were only 25 — 15 fewer than his opponent — demonstrating greater consistency. Overall, Alcaraz gained the upper hand in serving, returning, and rally stability, which were the main reasons for his Australian Open title. These technical characteristics provide valuable references for the training of Chinese male tennis players in terms of serve aggression, return quality, and rally stability.
