Against the dual background of the competency-oriented transformation of global education and the international dissemination of Chinese culture, calligraphy and seal carving, as important carriers of excellent traditional Chinese culture, have gradually integrated into international art education scenarios. However, current courses focus mainly on skill teaching and neglect the cultivation of core competencies, resulting in many limitations. Guided by core competencies, this paper defines core concepts such as international art education and core competencies of calligraphy and seal carving, constructs a theoretical framework for curriculum design based on relevant theories, analyzes the current status and problems of curriculum implementation, and proposes targeted optimization strategies. The research shows that the core competencies of calligraphy and seal carving cover four dimensions including artistic aesthetics and cultural understanding, and constructing a "goal-principle-element" trinity curriculum framework can effectively solve problems such as curriculum positioning deviation and content mismatch. This study aims to provide theoretical and practical guidance for the optimization of calligraphy and seal carving courses in international art education, and promote the coordinated development of traditional art dissemination and competency cultivation.
