How to Improve Middle School Students’ English Reading Literacy Through “Extended Reading”

Reading ability is an important part of English learning, which determines the quantity and quality of useful information absorbed by students.Through reading, students can acquire a large amount of information and knowledge, broaden their horizons and understand different cultures and ideas.In order to comprehensively improve students’ English reading ability and comprehension, and to help them better master and use English, the English Curriculum Standard clearly states, “The English curriculum requires the rational use and active development of curriculum resources, and provides students with content and healthy and rich curriculum resources that are close to the reality, close to life, and close to the times.”Introducing English extended reading into the classroom as a new type of English teaching method will surely enrich the teaching resources, broaden the channels of learning and using English, and build a bridge between students’ learning realities and life realities, realize the optimization of English teaching.
